Tucked away along the winding, marsh-lined roads of Florida’s Nature Coast lies
Ozello, an island community known for its ruggedly beautiful landscapes and
deep-rooted "Old Florida" charm. Once a year, this quiet enclave bursts into a
lively celebration of community, creativity, and culinary heritage during the
annual Ozello Arts, Crafts & Blue Crab Festival.

Organized by the Ozello
Civic Association (OCA)—a dedicated non-profit organization—the festival serves
as a critical fundraiser, with entry donations directly supporting local charity
endeavors and community preservation. Usually held on a Saturday in late
November, the event offers an escape from commercialized modern attractions,
drawing thousands of visitors down the scenic nine-mile stretch of West Ozello
Trail in Crystal River.
As the name implies, the crown jewel of the event is the local blue crab. The
waters surrounding the Ozello archipelago are rich with marine life, making it a
historic hub for crabbing. Local culinary institutions, like Peck’s Old Port
Cove, step up to serve the namesake delicacy, offering attendees fresh,
perfectly seasoned blue crabs harvested right out of the region's coastal
waters. For those who aren't fans of shellfish, the festival's food lineup
always has plenty of variety. Local food trucks and vendors serve up gourmet
smashburgers, sweet treats, ice cream, and classic festival fare.
Beyond the food, the festival turns into an open-air gallery showcasing the
region’s thriving creative community. Between 45 and 50 hand-picked artists and
crafters gather to display their original works. The vendor booths feature an
eclectic mix of goods that reflect the coastal lifestyle, including fine art &
photography, handcrafted Jewelry, woodwork & textiles. Because the vendor spots
are carefully curated, visitors get the chance to speak directly with the
creators, adding a personal connection to every unique find.
What truly sets the Ozello Blue Crab Festival apart is its irreplaceable
atmosphere. It captures a slower, more authentic era of Florida living. Free
from standard amusement park distractions, the event thrives on simple,
family-friendly fun. Surrounded by sweeping views of tidal creeks, ancient
cabbage palms, and Spanish moss, the festival gives outsiders a glimpse into why
the locals fight so fiercely to protect this coastal sanctuary.
Whether you come for the fresh-off-the-boat seafood, to check off your holiday
shopping list with one-of-the-kind local crafts, or simply to take a peaceful
drive out to the edge of the Gulf of Mexico - the Ozello Arts, Crafts & Blue
Crab Festival delivers an unforgettable slice of authentic Florida culture.
