While
much of the surrounding Wildlife Mangement Area land is focused on raw
wilderness and seasonal hunting, Otter Springs is a 636-acre sanctuary designed
for multi-use recreation. The park’s centerpiece is a second-magnitude natural
spring that pumps out roughly 10 million gallons of water every day. Even though
Otter Springs is in Gilchrist county, and not technically part of the Nature
Coast, we include it here because it is such an attraction.

The spring creates a
crystal-clear pool that flows along a spring run for about a mile before
entering the Suwannee River. The natural spring vent is a favorite for locals
looking to cool off in the summer. But if the 72 degree spring water is a bit
too "refreshing" for you, the park also features a large, enclosed, and heated
swimming pool, allowing for year-round swimming. A large lodge and social hall
on the property are frequently used for reunions and weddings.
There is a dedicated canoe and kayak launch for paddlers wanting to explore the
spring run and the Suwannee River. Not interested in paddling or swimming? A
volleyball court, a basketball court, and 5 miles of multi-use nature trails,
provide ample alternatives for recreation.
Otter Springs is significantly more developed than the primitive campsites
you’ll find in the neighboring Log Landing tracts. It is currently managed by
"For Vets, Inc.," a non-profit that maintains the park in partnership with
Gilchrist County. Over 100 sites for RVs with water, 30/50-amp electric, and
sewer are available. Tent sites are available in more secluded areas. There are
even climate controlled cabins you can rent.
