The Hernando County Blueberry Festival is a major community celebration held at
Florida Classic Park in Brooksville, Florida. It is important to note that while
"Blueberry Festivals" have been held in downtown Brooksville in the past, the
current iteration is a revitalized event focused on the region's status as a top
blueberry producer. It is presented by the Nature Coast Chamber of Commerce and
Community Markets & Events.
Unlike typical carnivals, this festival emphasizes "wholesome, old-fashioned
county fun". You won't find mechanical midway rides; instead, the focus is on
agriculture, heritage, and local talent. The star of the show is "Blueberry
Lane," featuring fresh-picked local blueberries and blueberry plants for sale.
Blueberry-themed treats, like pies, shortcakes, cobblers, cheesecake, and jam
will be available to sample and purchase. Another favorite is blueberry beer and
wine.
A blueberry pie-eating contest and homemade recipe competition are also part of
the agenda. Live music with folk performances and toe-tapping local bands will
entertain throughout the weekend. The kids will enjoy exhibits featuring local
farm animals - including baby goats. Adults might be more interested in the
large gathering of local cooks, crafters, and vendors.
