The Hernando County Fair & Youth Livestock Show is an authentic slice of Americana tucked away on the Florida Nature Coast. Held annually at the Hernando County Fairgrounds in Brooksville, this event spans nine days every spring—typically kicking off in mid-to-late April.

It serves as both a lively carnival for families and a critical celebration of the region's rich agricultural heritage. The fair acts as a bridge between the area’s historic farming roots and its rapidly growing modern community, bringing together generations of local residents for a mix of education, competition, and classic fairground fun.

At the very heart of the fair is the youth livestock show, organized in partnership with local 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters. For months leading up to the event, local youth raise, groom, and train animals ranging from poultry and rabbits to goats, swine, and beef cattle. During fair week, these young exhibitors present their livestock before judges, competing for ribbons, badges, and supreme championships. The event culminates in the highly anticipated youth livestock auction, where local businesses and community members bid on the animals. Money raised goes directly toward college funds, future farming projects, or educational scholarships for the participants, making it one of the most community-focused aspects of the fair.

Beyond the livestock barns, the fairgrounds transform into a bustling carnival midway packed with excitement: It features classic carnival rides like the giant Ferris wheel, zero-gravity spinners, and funhouses, alongside traditional skill games and prize booths. The grandstand comes alive on weekends with high-octane motorsport entertainment. Popular events include demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, and monster truck exhibitions. The fair also hosts the annual Miss Hernando County Pageant, celebrating local youth across multiple age divisions from toddlers to adults.

Inside the main exhibit halls, community members enter their finest work in home economics and creative arts.
