Land O’ Lakes is a fast-growing unincorporated community located in south-central Pasco County. Known for its balance of suburban living, natural beauty, and modern master-planned developments, it has evolved into one of Tampa Bay’s most popular commuter suburbs.

The area derives its name quite literally from its geography. In 1950, residents voted to adopt the name to highlight the region’s dozens of natural lakes, ponds, and wetlands. Historically composed of small farming communities like Denham and Ehren, the area was once famous for citrus groves, cattle ranching, and early roadside attractions like Dupree Gardens. Rather than a traditional grid-style downtown, Land O’ Lakes is largely built around master-planned communities like Bexley, Connerton, and Oakstead. These developments feature resort-style amenities, clubhouse events, miles of paved walking/biking trails, and neighborhood parks.

Outdoor culture thrives here. Conner Preserve offers thousands of acres for hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing. The Suncoast Trail - a 42 mile long paved multi-use trail - runs along the western edge of the area, serving cyclists and runners. Boating, kayaking, and fishing are standard weekend pastimes across the area’s many lakes.

Land O’ Lakes serves primarily as a bedroom community for commuters who work in Hillsborough County - although commerce and industry is rapidly being developed locally as the population increases. By combining highly rated schools, modern master-planned amenities, and abundant natural lakes with proximity to Tampa’s urban core, it has solidified its position as one of the Tampa Bay area’s premier residential destinations.
