The
Floral City Strawberry Festival is an
annual event held the first weekend of March to celebrate and enjoy the local
strawberry industry. Sponsored by the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, it
features fruit grown by local grower Ferris Groves - which has been producing
citrus, strawberries and other produce for over 75 years.
Held on the grounds of Floral Park, there are booths with arts and crafts from
local artisans and commercial vendors. A beer garden near the main stage serves
beer, wine, and other drinks. A playground area is available for the kids with
bounce houses, rock climbing wall, and other activities.
The festival features live music both days from country, bluegrass, rock, blues
and gospel bands. Check the official festival website link below for the current
year's lineup of entertainment.
In the true spirit of an old Florida town, there is also a Strawberry Prince and
Princess Pageant that encourages local residents to dress up in strawberry
themed attire for a fun contest. The pageant winners are crowned on the main
stage on Saturday morning of the event.
Needless to say, strawberries in all their forms take center stage for the
festival, with strawberry shortcake as a main feature. Pie eating contests are
held for those wishing to participate. Food trucks are on site offering a
variety of cuisine options.
A small fee is required for entry to the festival. Parking, and a shuttle from
the parking area, is free.
