Yankeetown Seafood Festival
Yankeetown, Florida
Weekend before Thanksgiving
Founded in 1983
Riverside Drive in
Yankeetown, a
tree-lined boulevard with a grassy median, along the shores of the Withlacoochee
River makes a perfect venue for the Yankeetown Seafood Festival. Hosted by the
Inglis-Yankeetown Lions Club, this is one of those true "real Florida" small
town events enjoyed by basically all the locals ... and a good number of
visitors.
The event features lots of seafood from a variety of vendors, arts and crafts
booths, along with games. You can expect to find a wide variety of custom
crafted items available for sale at the festival. Music - general country and
bluegrass - is usually part of the entertainment.
One popular feature has been the ribber ducky race down the Withlacoochee River.
Spectators are invited to choose a numbered duck to compete in the competition.
In past years, up to 500 little yellow duckies have navigated a short section of
the river to see which one wins. The winner - and the last place duck - each
receive a cash prize. And all proceeds go to charity.
