This is a one-day festival held each year to
promote the crab industry in Wakulla County. In 1975 it began as a quaint
gathering, but has since grown in size and tradition, including live music and a
variety of entertainment for attendees. It is one of the longest running
festivals in Wakulla County.
The event is kicked off with a parade down U.S. Highway 98, after which the
gates to Woolley Park are opened to the public to begin the festival. There is a
small admission fee, and children are free.
Entertainment typically includes live music, clog dancers, local arts and crafts
vendors, a "blue crab pickin'" contest, and kids activities. One of the
signature events during the festival is the "mullet toss" competition. A number
of food vendors are on hand, but the dish of the day is obviously blue crab.
