Hernando County
Hernando County is probably best known around the world for its mermaids at Weeki Wachee Spring. Once a tourist theme park, it is now owned and operated by the Florida State Park Service. In addition to its mermaid show, the park is also a popular destination for kayakers. Paddle with the current from the spring to the Gulf of Mexico, and take a shuttle back to your starting point. Not into water sports? No problem ... head to the wilderness of the Withlacoochee State Forest. Miles and miles of hiking and mountain bike trails will take you through some of the most scenic parts of old Florida. And there's even a special tract for ATVs and off-road vehicles to have fun.
